The amazing eco-friendly makeover of an office

In 2025, architecture firm Picharchitects/Pich-Aguilera introduced modular elements to Franport's Barcelona offices, aiming to create spacious, open workspaces that respect the building's spatial and lighting qualities.
The exterior maintains the building's original sober and functional character, while the interior features modular wooden elements that respond to the human scale, striking a balance between the industrial scale of the space and the comfort required for daily work.
The space is in an urban setting and the two facades let in filtered, uniform light. This provides views of the city from different sides, making for a pleasant and stimulating workspace.
The entrance and reception area is shaped by the suspended wooden topography, which envelops and guides visitors with warmth.
The project makes use of a series of stored materials and elements, significantly minimising environmental impact and reflecting sustainability criteria.
Passive design is employed to enhance energy efficiency: natural light control, cross ventilation and materials that contribute to overall thermal inertia reduce dependence on active systems.
The installations are left exposed to eliminate superfluous finishes and emphasise industrial functionality. This idea is used in everything we do on the project. It makes sure that it can be used in many different ways in the future.
